My Reading Life – Darlene L. Turner

I have a confession to make. I buy books but I’m notorious for not reading them. Hands up…can anyone relate? Every year I make a goal to read more. Unfortunately, I fail lots of the time. I’m an author. You’d think I would be better at it! LOL

What can I say? It’s been a busy year and that’s okay. I try and set aside Sunday afternoons to read. Also, in between writing my books I give myself a reward and read.

Right now I’m reading some psychological thrillers and plan on starting Kimberley Woodhouse’s newest release, The Secrets Beneath. I’m also doing the Bible study called When You Pray.

What’s on my TBR shelf right now? Yup, as you can see from the picture, I’m still reading The Art of Tale by Steven James and Tom Morrisey. LOL! Some of the books in the photo are for research: An Unquiet Mind, Talking to Strangers, and The Wildest Hunt.

Where’s my favorite reading spot? In the summer, it’s out on my deck. During the cooler months, I like to read in our family room wrapped up in my buffalo plaid blanket (you know it must be plaid, right?) with a fire going. Don’t forget the marshmallows in the hot chocolate!

Who are your favorite authors? I know, I know…it’s hard to narrow it down. How about your top 10? Where do you like to read? Grab a book, sit back with a hot drink, and relax on this beautiful fall day! Reading is the best form of relaxation.

Darlene, I also like psychological suspense! I also like really well-researched historicals, where I can lose myself in the period.
I’ll read anything Sarah Sundin writes, she’s my favorite WWII author and the reason I don’t WRITE WWII. I also like Lynn Austin’s recent forays into the period. There’s a whole new wave of people writing about the Greatest Generation. I think time has given us perspective and a chance to process it.
Classic authors who have influenced my life include Lauraine Snelling and Brock and Bodie Thoene. I remember reading the Zion Chronicles and thinking, “Words can do THIS?”
I like police procedurals better than cozy mysteries, and give me a hardboiled female detective any time.
    Thanks for sharing, Darlene!

Thank you for sharing! I’m always buying more books than I can read them. Lol. Jessica R. Patch is one of my Top 10 favorites. I love reading a great book in my reading chair.
