My Reading Life – Barbara M. Britton

My Reading Life Barbara M. Britton

When Life Happens

I love this verse in Ecclesiastes.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)

Now, don’t get me wrong. I believe reading is for every season. The amount of reading, however, may vary.

Currently, the first floor of my house is undergoing a remodel, so I am living in a construction zone. My mom fell victim to hackers, so I have been out of town.

I am also trying to keep track of two young adult sons who live in different states. Oh yeah, and I write books in my spare time while ministering at church.

Jesus keeps me grounded and sane. His Word and our conversations have me encouraged in my faith. But I haven’t had much time to read.

Recently, I read the recent releases of some friends. I promised myself that I would never review a book unless I had read it, so I managed to finish their books. This is great because they all write in different genres under the Christian Fiction umbrella.

I also committed to judge for a contest, and I fulfilled my commitment. Judging always exposes me to different genres and authors. I can get in a rut and only read similar storylines.

With everything going on right now, I do find it relaxing to take time away from screens and sit in a chair and page through a book. Paper books are a favorite of mine. My go-to storylines include Westerns, mail order brides, trapped by a storm, and of course, Bible heroes. Add a little romance and I will have a relaxed smile on my face.

What is your go-to storyline for busy periods in your life?
