Pages of My Life – Laura Ashwood

THE STORIES WE CARRY

I never sit down intending to pour my heart onto the page. I tell myself I’m just writing about my characters—about their struggles, their heartbreaks, their triumphs. But somewhere along the way, I notice that the emotions spilling from them are the very ones I’ve been carrying myself.

Writing has always been more than storytelling for me. It’s therapy wrapped in fiction. When I give a heroine the courage to face her fears, I’m often reminding myself that I can do the same. When a hero learns to forgive, I find myself loosening my own grip on old hurts.

And it’s not just as a writer. As a reader, I’ve felt the same thing—those beautiful moments when a line in a book stops me cold because it feels like it was written just for me. Stories have a way of slipping past our defenses and reaching the tender places we try so hard to guard.

That’s the beauty of both reading and writing fiction. They offer us a safe place to wrestle with the real stuff of life. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, but almost always, we walk away changed—healed in some small, quiet way.

I think that’s one of God’s sweetest gifts: the way He can use words, even in fiction, to remind us of His presence, His hope, and His love.

Have you ever had a story—whether one you read or wrote—touch your heart in that way?
