Finding Hope in the Small Things

Have you ever noticed that the biggest moments in life often begin with something very small?

A kind word from a stranger. A handwritten note tucked into a mailbox. A loyal dog resting quietly beside someone who needs comfort. These ordinary moments rarely make headlines, yet they often leave the deepest impressions on our hearts.

That idea inspired my newest novel, A K-9 Mountain Promise.

The story takes readers to the fictional mountain town of Hope Rock, Colorado, where veterinarian Noah Ross returns home carrying regrets from his past, and single mother Abby Clifford is doing everything she can to build a stable future for herself and her young daughter, Charlotte. As their paths cross again, they discover that healing doesn’t usually happen all at once. It comes one conversation, one act of forgiveness, and sometimes one wagging tail at a time.

Of course, no Hope Rock story would be complete without Rosie and Briggs—the two Vizslas who have quickly become reader favorites. They remind us of something we often forget: faithfulness doesn’t have to be loud to make a difference.

While writing this novel, I found myself reflecting on how often God works through ordinary people. Scripture is filled with individuals who chose to be faithful where they were. They weren’t seeking recognition. They were simply willing to trust God with the next step.

I think that’s why I love writing stories set in small towns. Communities like Hope Rock remind us that every person matters, every kindness counts, and every life has the potential to influence another.

Many readers have told me they enjoy closing one of my books, feeling encouraged. That means more to me than they know. My hope has always been to write stories that entertain while quietly pointing readers toward the faithfulness of God.

If you’re looking for a gentle romance filled with lovable dogs, family, second chances, and reminders that hope is never out of reach, I hope you’ll enjoy spending some time in Hope Rock.

After all, sometimes the smallest promises become the ones that change our lives.

Question for readers: What small act of kindness has stayed with you over the years? I’d love to hear your story in the comments.
