My Reading Life – Sarah Loudin Thomas
MY READING LIFE NEEDS… A LIBRARIAN’S NOTE
Christmas is nearly upon us—can you believe it?!? Seems like we just took the decorations down a few weeks ago . . .
I’m guessing you, like so many of us, have a long to-do list around the holidays. Shopping, decorating, baking, the church pageant, the choir concert, family obligations, friends you want to see . . . phew. Getting much reading done?
I’m not!
I was joking around with a librarian friend about how having a job and a life really cuts into my readerly and writerly activities. Each year I seem to have less time to read, write, go to conferences, and just hang out with friends talking about books.
She offered to write me a librarian’s note excusing me from my other responsibilities. Which got me thinking about how a librarian’s excuse might go . . .
- Please excuse Sarah from work. She recently completed a manuscript and will require full bed rest for at least 48 hours.
- Please extend Sarah’s daily lunch hour. Her well-being is dependent upon being able to read for at least two hours in the middle of every day.
- Sarah’s TBR pile has grown taller than her nightstand. Please excuse her from all other activities for one month to catch up.
- I have recently prescribed a writers’ retreat for Sarah so she can be exposed to others who suffer from the same malady she does. Please excuse her for the week of ______________.
- Sarah’s love of the written word is highly contagious. Please expose her to as many people as possible.
So, how about it–what would YOUR librarian’s note say?
Merry Christmas!
