My Reading Life – Maryann Landers
By Maryann Landers
My husband and I are traveling north from southern Utah to our home in Alaska in a forty foot bus conversion. This grand adventure will take us through Idaho, Montana and up into Canada to Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon Territory and then cross into the back country of Alaska.
Inspired to return the bus back to where my in laws worked in their spare time to create a home on wheels for themselves in their retirement years, we’re dialed in to traverse bad lands of desert, cattle country, mountain passes and numerous historical landmarks.
Yesterday, we traversed country where wagon trains forged their way and I can’t help but think of the many novels I’ve read of those adventures. My thoughts took me a little further north into Canada to the When Calls the Heart Series by Janet Oak, an author from Alberta who created a pioneer world for us to delve into.
As we set out from a stop in Idaho visiting family I imagined this coach as a way to transport us to the book world of our choice? Where would it take us?
Take a ride on the reading bus as Maryann Landers talks about her reading life. Share on XI asked my nieces where they would go. One said Narnia, the other said to Ancient Egypt. Another one said to the villas of Beauty and the Beast while the youngest wanted to explore the story world of characters on the Oregon coast.
Where would the book bus take you? Would you exit and follow the Lewis and Clark trail to the mouth of the Columbia River and imagine all the stories of their exploration? Or perhaps you’d stop off in Northern British Columbia and join the gold exploration of the Klondike and enter the story world of a roadhouse welcoming travelers. Maybe this bus would take you in modern times to the bustling city of Edmonton, Alberta where you’d join a cold case detective in a mystery novel.
When I’m reading I love the escape of the good story that transports me to a world that’s easy to imagine. My next read, Brave, by Mesu Andrews, will whisk me away to Biblical times where I’m sure I’ll learn a lot about the life of Abigail, one of King David’s wives and the land she called home.
The road ahead of us has no limit of where it could take us when it comes to our favorite books. Can you imagine where you will go next?
Alaskan based author Maryann Landers writes women’s faith filled fiction based on true stories of extraordinary women of her magnificent state. She loves to showcase the unique north and give her readers a little taste of rustic Alaska.
While writing in her log home in the woods she is also looking forward to her next adventure with her Alaskan husband, juggling mom tasks such as crafting homemade meals from moose and caribou meat, building DIY projects from scrap wood piles and guiding her teens in their homeschooling.
