Pages of My Life – Debra DuPree Williams

Hey, y’all. I’m Debbie Williams, and I want to say thanks to the BRRC leaders who asked for submissions to their The Pages of My Life segment. I’m so glad they did because I love sharing my life with you and learning more about you as well.

Here in western North Carolina, we’ve been iced and snowed in for over a week. We moved here from the Tampa, Florida area where we lived for over thirty years. It’s cold here, y’all! Especially when out breaking up ice or shoveling snow.

Writing came in my later life. First published at age seventy, I now have two books out and working on books three and four in a mystery series.

Since I wasn’t an avid reader in my younger years, much of my time in high school and college was spent in rehearsals for choral groups or opera productions. My reading centered around musical thought and other academic subjects.

Fast forward to married life and babies. I fell in love with historical fiction, especially gothic romance. I didn’t know at the time that’s what it was called, but it became my preference. I once got so engrossed in a story that I called my husband by the name of the main male character. Talk about embarrassment. I’m thankful he doesn’t remember.

After that incident, I felt led to read lighter things and found cozy mysteries. One of the first series was the late Alabama author (I’m an Alabama gal) Anne George’s Southern Sisters Mysteries. I was captivated. Her first book, Murder on a Girls’ Night Out, had me laughing until tears flowed.

I’ve learned about more genres since entering the Christian writing world, and have so many friends who are authors that I stay busy reading their books for review or endorsement. Cozies are still my favorite, but I also enjoy reading romantic suspense, historical fiction, biblical fiction, women’s fiction, and even picture books. There are so many great authors out there and so little time. But as you can see, there is certainly something out there no matter where your tastes lie.

Blessings, y’all!
