After days filled with hours of creating characters and trying to keep all of them from going rogue on me, (yes, they tend to have minds of their own sometimes), there is nothing that clears my mind and satisfies me more than to read a good book.

I love being transported to another place and time without even packing a suitcase! All I have to do is snuggle on my comfy couch, in my pj’s, with my soft blanket. My biggest complaint is that I can’t find a good stopping place. I keep telling myself, “Just one more chapter…”  and wake up later with the open book on my chest!

Lots of times, especially on social media, the questions are asked, “Who is your favorite author? What is your favorite book?” Sorry, but I love them all! I am a very passionate person, finding delight in such simple things. I am all or nothing. If I’m totally engrossed in a book by the second chapter, that book, and that author has just become my new favorite.

BUT, I do have a favorite genre. I absolutely cannot devour enough Historical Romance, especially with an Old West theme. I really had no choice in the matter. I was raised watching Gunsmoke and other westerns, and reading my dad’s collection of Louis L’Amour books. As a young mother, I was introduced to Janette Oke’s Love Comes Softly books, not the tv series…the books are much better. Mix that with my desire to be a country girl, taking on gardening and canning, sometimes I feel as if I’m caught in a time warp!

It’s funny how a book can stick in your mind, even when you don’t know you’re actually thinking about it. I remember every time I would read a book when my kids were still young, that’s when I would suddenly have a “nesting” urge. Because of the historical setting of the books, that was when I would take on a new project such as making a quilt, and have my kids help around the quilting frame. Or I would crochet a blanket, or do some other hand craft, almost as if that book had taken me back in time and left me to linger for a while. And that, my friends, is a wonderful place to be.

Meet Lynne Lanning

Lynne and her husband, Roger, live in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina.  They have five children and twelve grandchildren, scattered across the US from Washington state to Florida.

She enjoys arts and crafts and has won awards in several categories.  Enjoying the life of an artist/crafter, she nurtures three generations of creativity, encouraging the natural talents of her children and grandchildren.

As a young adult, she collected interviews with some of her oldest family members, which not only helped with classes in college, but gave her hope of one day writing about them.

Lynne rekindled her interest in reading and writing when she retired as owner of a quilt shop.  She began to pull out of storage, old notebooks and journals filled with previous writings, and even cassette tapes of interviews she had with family members who had now passed away.

Realizing that she had an absolute treasure to start with, she began writing fictionally enhanced stories of her true-life relatives.   She transports herself deep into how they must have felt, what they were thinking, and how one decision could have changed the course of their lives.

Faith in God is at the forefront of her stories as she strives to show how God is with us through everything, He just wants us to trust and obey.

Her stories are full of romance and action mixed with humor and sass, encouraging her readers to identify with the characters while evoking emotion.

Lynne enjoys canning and preserving fresh veggies that Roger grows in his amazing garden.  She also has a passion for cooking, singing, reading and volunteer work at her church.
