My Reading Life – Kimberley Woodhouse
By Kimberley Woodhouse @kimwoodhouse
Like most authors, my story is filled with books. And not just the ones I write. (Although, I do spend an inordinate amount of time reading those… over and over and over and over. Sigh.)
Throughout my day, I will read pages upon pages of other books.
I start by reading in my one-year chronological Bible. Those of you who may know me, might have heard me talk about how I read through the Bible every fifty-two days. (So I read seven days’ worth.) It’s the book I want to know the best. After that, I move to my current Bible study. Then I have several other books that I read from—I’m currently in a study on prayer, so I have six different books that I read a little from each day to add to my study and make notes in my journal.
Then I move to exercise. I try to walk in the morning and do my elliptical in the afternoon. On my morning walks, I listen to audiobooks. Right now I’m listening to The London House by Katherine Reay. I recently signed up for the Conqueror’s Challenges with my daughter and a few friends and am making my way through The Shire (the challenges are to walk, run, bike, swim your way through however many miles are for each) 145 miles on The Lord of the Rings challenge. Thus, I need lots of steps and distance—But it is inspiring because then I have a little more time to listen!
After that, I move to my desk. Writing is my full-time job, with four to five full-length novels each year. So every two-three months I need to turn in a new manuscript (while juggling the different editing phases of the ones getting ready for publication.)
My poor desk. It is piled high with research. Always. Normally for multiple books. While I spend months before writing a book in the research stage, I still read a lot of research books as I’m writing. For my current project, I’ve got twelve books I’m reading through.
Today Kimberley Woodhouse tells us about her writing life. #BRRC #Reading #Readingcomunity Share on XI also try to go through at least one book a month on the craft of writing. I normally do that reading at my desk as well so I can take copious notes. Right now, I’m going through The Dictionary of Body Language by Joe Navarro for a second time. There’s so much to learn from it!
But then… after I finish my work… <contented sigh> I get to read for enjoyment. I just finished Lost in Darkness by Michelle Griep and loved it. I’m currently reading four other fiction titles that beg for my attention each evening.
My reading life. I can’t say that it’s unique or different or even super exciting. But I love it. I love books. I love story.
Until next time, enjoy the journey!
